The Prime Minister Ujjawala Yojana is a major social welfare scheme implemented by the Government of India in 2016 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The scheme was launched with the aim of providing 50 million LPG Connection to women. It improving the quality of life for women particularly those belonging from BPL categories. Through this initiatives the governments seek to reduce the health risks associated with traditional cooking methods.

What Is Prime Minister Ujjawala Yojana ?
The Union Government Introduced the scheme with the tagline “Swachh Indian, Behtar Jeevan“, highlighting its goal of promoting clean fuel for a healthier and better life. It Also promotes women’s empowerment, environmental protection and better living condition in rural and urban poor households. Under this scheme, beneficiaries receive Rs. 1600 for each connection along with an interest free loan to bus a gas stove and the first cylinder refill.
Eligibility of Prime Minister Ujjawala Yojana
To get the benefit of the scheme, you must meet the following criteria :
- Candidates must be an Indian Citizens.
- The applicants must be a female and age should not less than 18 years.
- Applicants must be belong to the BPL Categories and do not have a LPG connection.
- The family’s total monthly income must be within the limit set by the state or UT Government.
- The applicants must not be enrolled in any other similar government scheme.
- The applicants name must appear in the SECC 2011 list and match the BPL records maintained by the oil marketing companies.

Objectives of Prime Minister Ujjawala Yojana
- Reduce the health risk and illness caused by Indoor Air pollution that result from using traditional cooking methods.
- To protect the environment from pollution caused by using dirty cooking fuels.

How to apply for Prime Minister Ujjawala Yojana
- STEP 1. Applicants are advised to collect the PMUY Application form from the nearest LPG Distributor or you can also download the application form through the official site which is https://pmuy.gov.in/
- STEP 2. Fill up the application with correct information and attach your passport photo and all the documents required for the scheme along with the application form.
- STEP 3. Submit the application form to the LPG Distributor office.
- STEP 4. After you submit the application, it will be reviewed by the authority.
- STEP 5. Once your documents are verified and eligibility is confirmed, the oil marketing companies will issue the LPG Connection.
